Volunteers Week 2018
Today sees the start of Volunteers Week, a national event to celebrate the valuable contribution that millions of volunteers make to our local communities every day. This year the tagline is Volunteering for All which highlights that anyone and everyone has got valuable skills which would make them a fantastic volunteer. In Stirling in particular, many organisations simply could not survive, and deliver the services they do, if not for the contribution and goodwill of their volunteers. One local organisation described their volunteers as ‘the golden thread connecting our communities’ and continues ‘Our organisation simply could not work without volunteers taking time out their busy lives to support our clients.’ Our community relies on the help and support of volunteers. Through volunteering we can make a difference to individuals and communities every day, from improving the community we live in, spending time with those who may otherwise be lonely and contributing to a range of other essential services and support. For many organisations, Volunteers’ Week also serves as a chance to recruit new volunteers and showcase the range of volunteering opportunities on offer. This in turn will inspire people to find out more about opportunities locally, take part and try volunteering for the first time. You can search for the perfect volunteering opportunity here or e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more.
Over the next week there will be a series of celebrations both nationally and locally across the community of Stirling. You can find an event near you at www.volunteersweek.org. Stirlingshire Voluntary Enterprise will also be out and about over the next few days to promote volunteering and celebrate the contributions many already make.
