A New Local Development Plan for the National Park

A bold new vision for the future of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs’s National Park is taking shape with the launch of a new Local Development Plan (LDP), designed to guide how land is used and developed across the area. Building on the ambitions set out in the National Park Partnership Plan, the LDP aims to help realise a future where the Park is “a thriving place that’s nature positive and carbon negative by 2045.”

The new plan will serve as a roadmap, identifying where development such as housing, business spaces, and tourism infrastructure should take place—and just as importantly, where it shouldn’t. It will also highlight areas of natural and cultural value that need protection.

For the first time, the LDP will go beyond traditional planning to influence how land is valued and used, supporting efforts to tackle the climate and nature crises head-on.

Why It Matters

The Local Development Plan is a vital tool for shaping the future of the National Park. It will help ensure that growth and development are sustainable, aligned with community needs, and supportive of environmental goals.

What’s Next?

The planning process is being done differently this time, with a strong focus on community involvement. Everyone who lives, works, or visits the Park is encouraged to take part in shaping the plan.

A detailed timeline and opportunities for public engagement will be shared soon, as the Park Authority begins the next phase of consultation and development.
